Why People Who Camp Are Kickass Cool

We’ve all got at least one, that friend or colleague who thinks we are utterly mad for pursuing our love our camping, as though a weekend spent under canvas is somehow less desirable or less fun than a city break in a fancy hotel.

For people who have no interest in the outdoors, there is little point even attempting to sway their opinion, but as campers and lovers of the outdoors, no matter what our friends think, we know we are kickass cool, and these are the reasons why.

Reasons why camping is cool

1. We Know How to have fun

Spending time under canvas means time spent disconnected from tech, and easy on-tap entertainment. Campers know how to make the most of this gloriously tech-free downtime, and know that without constant over-stimulation, our brains are free to idle, which is known to boost creativity.

Our weekends are rarely wasted. We explore, we chill out with a book, we walk, we build campfires and spend time doing whatever we jolly well feel like doing! We are resourceful enough to find ways of filling our time and usually end up having heaps of fun whilst we are at it. Who ever had a memorable, fun day sat at home watching TV anyway?

2.  We Are Tough And Resourceful

When it comes to a weekend away or a holiday choice, camping is rarely the easy option. Checking into a hotel IS more convenient, but for those with a sense of adventure, that makes it so much less interesting! When we forget something vital like tent pegs or a mallet, we don’t go into melt down. We think on our feet and get on with it, improvising with whatever we can lay our hands on.

Coping with set backs and adversity, however small, builds character and reminds us that whatever happens, we’ll get by.

3. We Know Ourselves

One of the best things about camping is being disconnected, likewise, for many this can be one of the worst things! With glorious time on our hands, and with nothing too pressing to concern ourselves with, campers tend to be happy spending time alone with their thoughts.

Camping means that we get to spend quality time with ourselves, our family and our closest friends. Connecting with the people we care about enhances wellbeing and helps us to bond. Having time to think also helps us to get to know ourselves better too, helping us focus on personal goals, making us all round awesome!

4.  We Care About The Natural World

Not all campers are country bumpkins, but it goes without saying that we love the natural world and take pleasure from it. We know that reconnecting with nature is crucial to happiness and wellbeing, and use it as an effective way to handle stress and recharge our batteries.

Finding pleasure in spotting varieties of trees, photographing or drawing landscapes, conquering peaks, seeing an animal we’ve never spotted in the wild before – all of these things have the power to make us happy, helping to put our everyday worries into perspective.

5.  We’ve Got Time For Other People

Camping is sociable and even if you don’t camp in a family or group, you’ll often be pitched near other people.

Campers smile, they say hello and they are basically friendly! None of this rushing past people, head down, refusing to make eye contact with strangers you walk past, we are friendly and open and always have time to stop for a chat or even offer a helping hand.

6. We Are Adventurous

We’re not all thrill seekers hell bent on pushing our endurance, but we are a curious lot, and we like experiencing new things. Who cares if we take a wrong turn and get lost, we go for it anyway! From mountain bikes and kayaks to climbing and exploring, if it involves being outdoors, you can bet we are up for it.

Being adventurous translates into us being active, and being active is incredibly good for our health.

Yep, all things considered, we are a kickass cool lot!
